It is shown that, due to the multi-wavelength emission and the typically large free spectral range of this light source, contour fringes appear on the holographic image corresponding to the surface relief, even in single-exposure recordings. The influence of the number of emitted modes on the fringe width is analysed, and the possible applications of the contour fringes in the field of optical metrology are pointed out.

Optical measurements of charge-carrier mobilities in photorefractive sillenite crystals

Photorefractive crystals exhibit large optical nonlinearities1 and have great potential in optical data processing.2 The extrinsic photorefractive effect in these electro-optic and photoconductive materials is rather well understood. The band-transport model' has been successfully employed to describe photorefraction in crystals such as the sillenite compounds, Bi12SiO2 0 and Bi12GeO 2 0 (BGO)....

Photorefractive effect generated in sillenite crystals by picosecond pulses and comparison with the quasi-continuous regime

Photorefractive gratings are generated in a BSO crystal by the interference of two 25-psec pulses at 532 nm. The grating is analyzed by diffraction of a third pulse or a weak cw argon laser, which permits a continuous monitoring of its evolution from picoseconds to milliseconds. The grating builds up in two steps; their relative contributions vary strongly with fluence. This behavior is explain...

Multimode Emissions from MEH-PPV Blended with Polystyrene Film Waveguides

In the context of conjugated polymers, especially those of the poly (phenylenevinylene) (PPV) family, which are promising candidates as emission material in light emitting devices such as LEDs, field effect transistors and photovoltaic devices, we have, in the present study, prepared MEH-PPV [Poly [2- methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylen-evinylene] of low molecular weight and low polydisp...

Wavelength stabilization and spectrum narrowing of high-power multimode laser diodes and arrays by use of volume Bragg gratings.

Spectral line narrowing (by a factor of 8) and stabilization of the emission wavelength (by a factor of 30) of multimode high-power laser diodes and arrays is demonstrated by use of volume Bragg gratings fabricated in high-stability inorganic photorefractive glasses. Applications include stabilization of pump laser diodes and arrays for solid-state lasers and metal-vapor lasers, spin hyperpolar...
